Phase-Field Study of the History-Effect of Remelted Microstructures on Nucleation During Additive Manufacturing of Ni-Based Superalloys

Abstract In the current work we employ multi-phase-field simulations to understand effect of remelting on microstructure evolution, especially nucleation new grains during selective electron beam melting (SEBM) Ni-based super alloy. The phase-field model is coupled both mass and heat transport phenomena including release latent solidification. We run in as cast homogenized conditions. Experimental observations show that triggers at melt pool border. simulation results shed more light local conditions border thereby enhancing our understanding mechanisms responsible for nucleation. are validated with experimental obtained Ni–20.5 mol pct Al binary
